Terra Bryn meditation beads are a tactile and kinaesthetic tool to gently assist you in your inner work. They are not associated with any particular tradition, but are respectful of all traditions. They are a modern configuration meant to be customized for your own personal purpose and use.

In this configuration, the two oval endstones provide you with a place to start, and a place to end. Three small 6mm beads provide a pathway in, and a pathway out. The three large 10mm beads are each a place to pause, and the medium sized 8mm beads in two sequences of seven allow you an opportunity for repeating or counting - prayer, affirmation, breath, or mantra.

The chain link construction allows the beads to easily articulate as you move along the sequence. An extra link of sterling silver chain between the changes in size of beads allows you to "feel" where you are in the sequence. The stones are weighted and warm in your hands. Each type of stone has its own unique properties and energies.

Prayer and meditation beads have been treasured tools of many spiritual traditions for many centuries. Most scholars believe that prayer beads originated with the Hindu in India. Hindu prayer beads are called mala and consist of 108 beads for repeating mantras or counting one's breath. Mala beads were later adopted by the Buddhist tradition. Muslim prayer beads called masbaha or subha have 33 or 99 beads representing the 99 names of Allah and the one essential name.

Christian prayer beads are believed to have originated in medieval times as a way to keep track of prayers repeated many times. The Catholic rosary, consisting of 59 beads, in its current version, was developed over many centuries. It is dedicated to the Virgin Mary and is used to contemplate the various periods of Jesus' life. An Anglican rosary, also known as the Protestant or Episcopal rosary was developed in the United States in the early 1980's.
